20,000 – 30,000 or more! That is the average number of steps Disneyland guests take PER DAY! That is between 10 – 12 miles of walking. After that many steps, plus the hours of standing, my poor feet start squawking by about 3:00 in the afternoon.
Disneyland’s new MaxPass system is sure to help those aching feet and put a smile on everyone’s face with the ease and convenience of obtaining digital FastPasses without the hassle of walking all over the parks.
With the old FastPass system, guests needed to visit the FastPass distribution kiosk near an attraction, insert each guest’s park ticket and retrieve a paper FastPass with a return time. Often times, one family member was assigned the task of fetching FastPasses, thus splitting up your group for a period of time. Guests would then visit other attractions or shows until their given return time. This entailed a lot of extra walking between attractions and time spent waiting in FastPass kiosk lines.
With Disneyland’s MaxPass, the extra time, effort and energy to obtain a FastPass is no more! Guests can keep their party together, eliminate hundreds of extra steps and spend their time enjoying the magic of the parks.
MaxPass is an extra paid option that allows guests access to all of their digital PhotoPass images as well as the opportunity to make digital FastPass selections from the convenience of a smart phone. The current pricing for MaxPass is $10 per person per day.
As a park guest planning my own personal trip for a family of 5, I really questioned whether I should spend the extra $50 per day. This seemed like a lot of extra money that I really had not put in my original budget. After doing some research and reading other reviews, I decided to try the system for one day. I can tell you now, after having spent three days using MaxPass, it was well worth the extra money for each day!
Here is how the MaxPass system works.
Uploading a credit card to your Disney account will save time in the parks, also avoiding the risk of dropping your credit card on Main Street at rope drop as you purchase MaxPass. This can also be done in the My Account section.
Once you have your park tickets in hand, feel free to scan these into the app in the My Tickets section.
You will not be able to proceed with purchasing MaxPass until you are in the park with an activated ticket, meaning your ticket has been scanned at the park gate upon entry.
Another great feature of MaxPass is that multiple guests may log in to the same Disney account from different smart phones. For example, my husband and two of my daughters downloaded the app and logged in to my Disney account. This allowed them to see attraction wait times and obtain FastPasses as well. This comes in handy when battery life grows dim!
After entering the park, open the Disneyland app and click “Get FastPass”.
You will be asked to select family members for whom you want to add MaxPass and click Continue.
The app now asks you to Choose and Experience and presents all of the return times for the available attractions. Scroll through to see all options. The current standby wait time is also listed. If an attraction is unavailable for a FastPass, it will be listed at the bottom of the list with no return time. Once you have selected your preferred attraction, tap the time in blue.
When your FastPass arrival window opens, you will have 1 hour in which to arrive. Go to the FastPass queue for your selected attraction. Be sure to have your Disneyland app open to “See All Plans” in the My Plans section.
Remember too that multiple guests may log in to one Disney account for the purposes of splitting up your party’s FastPasses.
The flexibility of MaxPass is great for families and groups that may want to split up. You can select only the guests wanting to ride a specific attraction. For example, if Dad and children want to ride Space Mountain with a FastPass, Mom and another child can ride Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters with a FastPass. You are already in the same land and can easily meet up at the popcorn stand when done.
This may seem like a lot of steps to secure a FastPass, but once you are familiar with the app, I think you will find that it is really very user-friendly, taking you through the steps one by one.
Another benefit of the MaxPass purchase is the fact that all of your Disney PhotoPass digital photo downloads are INCLUDED! This means all of your attraction photos from Space Mountain and Splash Mountain in Disneyland Park are yours. Your attraction photos from California Screamin’, Radiator Springs Racers and Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! are yours.
As you exit the attraction, find the photo of your experience and link the 8-character Attraction ID to your Disney account. The photos on the preview wall are displayed for a few short minutes, so I find it best to take a quick photo of my photo and enter the ID number at a later time.
WHAT IF you need to cancel a FastPass reservation or someone changes their mind? Easy! Simply go to “My Plans” on the Disneyland app and you can cancel for individuals or the entire party and make a new one.
WHAT IF the attraction goes down during your FastPass window? Your FastPass will automatically turn into a Multiple Experiences pass. This means you can redeem this special FastPass for ANY attraction! You can wait for your original attraction to reopen or use it to visit any other attraction any time throughout the rest of the day.
WHAT IF you miss your FastPass window? Cast Members allow for about a 5-10 minute cushion to arrive at your FastPass attraction. It’s usually best to apologize and ask nicely if the Cast Member can accommodate you. If you are much later than this, the Cast Member is not required to offer admittance.
WHAT IF a member of your family is too young or is unwilling to ride the majority of FastPass attractions? Consider not making the purchase for them. You may find that the Rider Switch program is best for these situations.
Should I purchase MaxPass?
My experiences with MaxPass have been very positive. I have found the app to be very user-friendly, particularly after having spent some time getting familiar with the lay out. I love that all PhotoPass photos are included with the purchase. Simply saving hundreds, if not thousands, of steps each day is well worth the purchase for my family. We were able to ride every FastPass attraction, some multiple times, without the hassle of crisscrossing the parks. I would highly suggest making room for MaxPass in your vacation budget!
