Dining options at Walt Disney World Resort abound! You can dine with beasts, royalty and critters. You can try cuisine from almost every country in the world. You can have the Kitchen Sink for breakfast and do a pub-crawl for dinner. Or you may desire a restaurant with a completely distinctive atmosphere and dishes reminiscent of a simpler time.
Let’s go back to poodle skirts, convertibles, milk shakes and drive-in movie theaters! Let’s check out Sci Fi Dine In Theater at Disney’s Hollywood Studios!
Sci Fi Dine In Theater is on the Disney Dining Plan and is one table service credit. Advanced reservations at 180 days prior are highly suggested. This restaurant is on Commissary Lane near the Star Tours attraction. Tables can seat 4-6 guests, with a few options for larger parties.
As you walk up to the entrance, you will see a 1950’s convertible and an enormous sign.
Car Hops are there to greet you with a friendly smile, take you to the drive-in theater and seat your family at a table…? a car…? This is what makes your experience so unique. Your table is a car… your car is a table!
When you think of a Walt Disney World quick service meal, does your mind automatically go to burgers, nuggets and mac and cheese?
I believe Disney has really raised the bar when it comes to their quick service options with Satu’li Canteen. This restaurant is in the new Animal Kingdom land of Pandora – The World of Avatar and offers healthy dishes with well-known ingredients.
Have you been “pixie dusted” while on a Disney vacation?
The term “pixie dusted” refers to those magical moments when a Disney Cast Member shows a guest a bit of extra attention, gives them a little extra something special or treats them to a unique experience.
We have been blessed with pixie dust several times on our many Disney adventures. Some of our favorites include opening Magic Kingdom Park, playing mini golf with Max on Disney Fantasy and opening the Disneyland Parks four times. Some of the smaller magical moments include the gift of an extra FastPass and little tips for new adventures.
On our most recent vacation to Walt Disney World, we decided to try all of the Kidcot Fun Stops in Epcot’s World Showcase. This experience is geared toward children, but anyone can participate. Each of the eleven countries has a Kidcot Fun Stop station.
Garden Grill, located in the Land pavilion in Epcot, is one of those hidden treasures that all families must experience. Chip ‘n Dale’s Harvest Feast will now be a character dining option for breakfast, lunch and dinner!
For the young and young at heart, the anticipation of meeting a favorite character on their Disney vacation can make them simply giddy! Yes, Disney vacations are about family time, rides, great food and shows, but we all have our hopes set on meeting a special character and getting their autograph.
Characters appear throughout the Disney parks and ships, at certain restaurants and locations that can be found in your Times Guide or Personal Navigator. Other times, characters appear randomly.
Here are some important tips to remember about meeting characters and getting autographs:
As our family has grown up with Disney vacations, we have found different types of magic with every trip. When my children were babes, it was the lights, sparkle and music of the parks. When they were preschool age, the Princesses meant everything. Now that my girls are a bit older and more “at home in the parks”, they really wanted to learn more about the history and secrets of their favorite attractions. This is when I began researching Hidden Mickeys and have since come to love the adventure of this treasure hunt!
An official Hidden Mickey is defined as “a partial or complete impression of Mickey Mouse placed by the Imagineers and artists to blend into the designs of Disney attractions, hotels, restaurants, and other areas.” (http://www.hiddenmickeyguy.com/) Disney historians will tell you that Hidden Mickeys came about in the late 1970’s as Epcot was being built. The “higher-ups” in Disney wanted Mickey and Minnie to stay in Magic Kingdom. However, the Imagineers felt differently and began leaving Hidden Mickeys for guests to find.
Happy New Year! I hope you enjoyed a lovely holiday season making memories with family and friends.
