You have decided it’s time to take your family on a Disney vacation. Maybe you’ve chosen Disneyland in California, Walt Disney World in Florida, a Disney Cruise or Aulani in Hawaii. You’ve spoken with your favorite Wishes Family Travel agent about park tickets, dining packages, hotel accommodation or port excursions. Your family is counting down the months and weeks until Disney, maybe you’ve even shopped the sales and found a Disney shirt for everyone to wear. Your trip is just a few months away and now it’s time to think about booking airline tickets. Your Wishes agent is always happy to help you with this portion of your vacation, however, it is important to be educated on how to find the best deals for air travel.
Here are some money saving tips:
Magical moments abound on Disney Cruise ships! You can plan your sea days around the pools, kids’ clubs, spa treatments, fantastic live shows and character greetings. You will have thrills galore during your port excursions. However, some of the Disney magic is not listed on your Personal Navigator. This is the kind of magic that just happens to find you as you are soaking up the sun, in line for a free ice cream cone or playing a round of mini-golf.
Personal, intimate experiences in a Disney Park may seem far and few between. With crowds, long lines and people everywhere rushing to the next attraction, you may begin to feel lost in shuffle. I’ve had that overwhelming feeling too. But I have also had extraordinary, friendly and warm Disney experiences. These are the ones that stand out in my memory.
One thing I enjoy doing is talking with the Cast Members. I love hearing about how they got to Disney, what other jobs they have had in the parks, their favorite rides and experiences working in the Happiest Place on Earth. Last year in Disneyland Park, while the rest of my family was riding Dumbo, I was saving our place in the line to see Rapunzel and Flynn Rider. The sun beating down, the heat and the line could send anyone over the edge of frustration. After speaking with the Cast Member for a bit, I learned that her favorite thing is to hear stories about surprising people with a Disney vacation. This is exactly what had brought our family to Disneyland that year. We surprised our daughter for her 12th birthday. We talked about what a gift it is to bring such joy to your child’s face. Before I knew it, we were next in line!
Magical moments are all around the Disney parks! You can plan your day around the exciting parades, fireworks and character greetings. You will have thrills galore on the rides and attractions. However, some of the Disney magic is not listed on your park map and schedule. This is the kind of magic that just happens to find you as you are taking a break on a bench, in line for a Mickey bar or walking to the next attraction.
This is exactly what happened to our family as we were walking in Tomorrow Land. We were leaving Space Mountain and heading toward Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. Ever so quietly a “street sweeper”, really an artist in disguise, used his broom and a bucket of water to paint Goofy on the pavement. He never said a word, but went about his work thoughtfully, pausing to assess his art. A few guests stopped to admire the magic, but many guests kept walking. Sadly, the art lasted only a short time before drying up.
I am thrilled to have had the opportunity to watch this spontaneous Disney magic unfold. These are the little moments that bring happiness to my day, the times when I say, “Only in Disney!” For this reason, I hope you will be on the look out for little bits of Disney magic that bring an extra smile to your day.
